QUESTION?:  Do You Perform Work Outside Of The Clovis Area?

     ANSWER:  Yes, EleCon services most of the Eastern New Mexico area including but not limited to: Portales, Dora, Floyd, Roswell, Melrose, Fort Sumner, Tucumcari & Logan.

QUESTION?:  Do You Offer 24hr Service?

     ANSWER:  Yes, our normal office hours are 8:00-5:00 Mon-Sat. But we do offer 24HR EMERGENCY SERVICE at an increased rate.

QUESTION?:  Can I do my Own Electrical Repairs?

     ANSWER:  No. Even if you think you understand the electricity of your home, if you’re not a certified Electrician you should not do your own electrical repairs. Doing so can cause more harm than good and may violate permits that your house needs to be livable. It involves years of training to be an Electrician for a reason and to keep your family and your home safe, you should always leave electrical repairs to the professionals.

QUESTION?:  Why Do My Light Bulbs Burn Out Frequently?

     ANSWER:  There are several reasons this could be occurring. However, one particular reason that should be ruled out, for the sake of fire safety, is overheating. A light fixture with poor airflow design will result in excessive heat buildup around the bulb. Having to replace bulbs again and again is not just an inconvenience, it’s also a fire hazard. Have your light fixtures inspected by an Electrician if you notice that bulbs are constantly blowing out.

QUESTION?:   What Does The Term “Short Circuit” Mean? 

     ANSWER:  When a wire carrying an electrical current comes into contact with the grounded conductor wire, or the equipment ground wire, excessive heat is created. If you see sparks in your electrical panel, you’ve likely witnessed a short circuit and you should have it checked by an Electrician immediately.

QUESTION?:  Is There A Difference Between A Fuse And Circuit Breaker?

     ANSWER:  They both perform the same function, disrupting the flow of electricity when a fault is sensed. A fuse will have to be replaced once it has tripped, whereas a circuit breaker won’t need replacement. It is for this reason that circuit breakers are more commonly used.

QUESTION?:  What Is A GFCI Outlet?

     ANSWER:  A type of electrical outlet that is designed to protect you from electrical shock in the presence of moisture. They are commonly found in bathrooms, kitchens, garages and outdoor. They feature test/reset buttons. Depress the “test” button to turn off the GFCI. The “reset” button turns it back on after it has tripped. If it doesn’t reset, you’ve got a problem and will need an Electrician. 

QUESTION?:  Why Are My Lights Flickering?

     ANSWER:    Flickering lights is an annoying problem, especially when it disrupts your everyday life. If your lights are frequently flickering, take note as to whether it continuously comes from the same source or not. If it’s always the same source, it might be the light bulb. You can try changing the bulb and seeing if the problem persists. If the lights continue to flicker on that one fixture, or if they’re flickering throughout your home, you’ll need to get an electrician to fix the problem. 

Flickering lights are usually an indication that your electrical wiring is outdated and too weak to carry sufficient amounts of electricity safely throughout your home. However, this isn’t always the case. Flickering lights can also indicate problems with power supply or circuits, so call an Electrician to make sure you confirm, and then fix, the underlying cause. 

QUESTION?:   Why can’t I turn the tripped circuit breaker in my panel back on?

     ANSWER:  In order to reset a tripped circuit breaker you need to make sure the switch is all the way in the “off” position (you’ll feel it click) first. Make sure the switch is all the way in the off position. If you can return it to the “on” position (you’ll hear and feel another click) without tripping again, you’ve successfully reset the circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker will not reset—or trips again when the switch is set to the “on” position—you may have a short circuit or an overload on that circuit. Make sure you don’t have too many items plugged in to one circuit. Try unplugging some devices. If that doesn’t solve the problem, you may want to have an Electrician look at it. 

QUESTION?: How Can I Tell if my Electrical Panel is Safe?

     ANSWER:  Electrical panels are comprised of a lot of parts and sometimes, it’s a little confusing to tell what you’re looking at. You should, however, always know if your electrical panel is safe. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to do this unless you’re a licensed electrician. If you think that your electrical panel is causing problems, or feel like something is going on, call an electrician to come out to your house and inspect the panel. Outdated panels are much less safe than modern ones, so you might need to replace your electrical panel to keep your home safe.

QUESTION?:  Why is My Light Switch Hot?

     ANSWER:  If you’ve ever felt an overheated light switch, you understand the panic that it causes. It’s unnerving and that’s understandable. Your light switch shouldn't be conducting heat and if it’s hot, you need to call an Electrician. Overheated light switches are an indication that something is wrong and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Turn your light switch off to break up the circuit and avoid turning it back on until a professional inspection is made. When you continue to use the light switch, you’ll put yourself at risk for a major electrical fire. 

QUESTION?:  When Should I Call an Electrician? 

     ANSWER:  If you notice any of the problems listed above, or you think that something’s not right, don’t wait to call an Electrician. Call a professional as soon as you notice a problem to avoid electrical fires or more serious damages to your home’s electrical wiring. While these questions are a good starting point, electrical knowledge goes much further than simple questions being answered. Always leave electrical issues up to the professionals and call an Electrician whenever you notice a problem.
